She is the daughter of Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi. Tope is the only daughter out of the three children in the family from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State.
Tope is no doubt one of the most popular and award winning gospel musician in Nigeria.
She is a multi-platinum Nigerian Gospel singer (artist) and as also acted in a number of Yoruba Nollywood movies.
Aside music, she is also a movie sound track composer and officially launched her career while she was still studying very hard for her secondary school certificate.
It all started when she was an ordinary member of the Jesters International comedy group before she left the group in 1984.
Tope Alabi attended Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun Anlugbua, Ibadan and obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) in the year 1986.
She then proceeded to The Polytechnic , Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in the year 1990.
Owing to the fact that she is from a very disciplined family that doesn’t entertain any nonsense, she pursued her educational attainment with all seriousness as she didn’t want to disappoint her parents who so much believed in her.
She joined the then “Jesters International” ( Jacob, Papilolo & Aderupoko) group at Ibadan, 1982 to 1984 during her secondary school days where she got her initial training, exposure and experience in drama.
This happened as a result of her passion for music and she didn’t want to miss out on that
After completing her University education, she worked briefly with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan as a correspondent under the supervision of Mr. Yanju Adegbite.
Her profile shows that she also worked at NTA Channel 7 Tejuosho (Now NTA Channel 10, Lagos) between 1990 & 1991. Tope also worked with Centrespread Advertising Limited, at Ilupeju area of Lagos and worked with this Company within the year 1991 – 1992 and Re-Union Nigeria Limited, Gbagada, Lagos.
Tope Alabi’s career started officially when she came back into the Theartre Art profession in 1994 as she joined the prestigious “Alade Aromire Theartre Group” .
She was taught everything about drama and her acting profession grew rapidly and become popular as she gained prominence in the contemporary Gospel music industry in Nigeria.
She was formerly a member of the Jesters International comedy group. She later worked with other popular travelling and stage theater groups in both Ibadan and Lagos.
What give her edge and makes her unique is her voice as well as her ability to create several melodies with different traditional and modern beats.
Since the beginning of her singing career, she has been able to release several Yoruba songs in Makossa, Salsa and hip hop beats.
One of her most popular album is “Agbelebu” , it was launched in 2012 and still enjoying fantastic airplay till date.
She has successfully released couple of albums making it 8 albums all together in one decade.
Tope alabi has upgraded from a local gospel artiste to international , she has performed in several countries of the world which include United states, United Kingdom , and Canada.
She is one of the most sought after Gospel musicians in Nigeria today.
Tope Alabi as a family woman, she is married to a man named Mr Soji Alabi, they tied the knot in 1988 and the marriage has produced four sound and healthy children.
